From the artwork series Advice for my younger self.
I was in London for a Design Conference in 2002. I had travelled down on the train from Edinburgh where I was studying. I didn't have much money, being a student, so I stayed in a cheap co-ed hostel not far from the conference hall. I had a few drinks at the hostel bar with some of the other residents before heading to bed. In the middle of the night I woke up to a stranger on top of me. He had climbed onto the top bunk and tried to tell me that I had invited him. My advice to my younger self is that you didn't do anything wrong. You have the right to feel safe. You have the right to socialise without being scared. Don't stay in a co-ed dorm room again.
