Sarah's approach to her work, while very personalised and intimate with each commission, is highly professional and delivered always as requested on time. I admire Sarah's ability to maintain such a creative level of design while retaining such a high level of professionalism and planning.

FANCY BIO
Sarah Sculley is a Sunshine Coast-based urban artist who creates colourful, feminine, layered work. Inspired by the female form, typography, nature and colour, Sarah mixes these elements to create her work on canvas, skate decks and walls. She is inspired by personal events, emotional pitfalls and the constant need to find the positive in every situation. She studied a Bachelor of Design Studies majoring in Graphic Design and Visual Culture at the Queensland College of Art and received a scholarship from Griffith University to study abroad at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland.
Sarah has been working in the Creative Industries for over 20 years and started exhibiting her work in 2005. Her first solo art show was in Shanghai, China. Sarah specialises in extra large canvas works, murals (commercial, retail, school and private) and blending her unique style into branding design. Sarah's passion lies in supporting and coaching students and artists to develop sustainable practises.
THE REAL DEAL BIO
I call myself a 'street artist' on my immigration declaration forms. That means I am legit, right? I love the neon watermelon/pink colour so much that if I see it in a shop I run towards it. I am a Mum to a wonderful, creative young man and two Chinese kitties who have cat passports (long story - I will tell you one day). I am a wife that believes in equality and has successfully delegated out all domestic tasks like a boss. I live to travel and become agitated if I don't have a trip booked. My values are freedom, creativity, being kind, joy and community education.
My day-to-day life jumps between chilled days in the studio painting, sipping green cordial and listening to Mumford & Sons and then crazy days on site painting murals in record time in the hot sun with paint smeared across my face. Thrown in are many hours cutting stencils, visiting schools to run workshops and painting walls with the students, organising, planning, business development, recording online workshops, content creation, chatting to my Mum on the phone, planning artworks and murals, a teeny tiny amount of graphic design, uploading artwork, applying for grants and street art festivals and cleaning. The studio always seems to need cleaning.
My studio is a converted 40ft shipping container plonked on my father-in-laws property at Ninderry, Sunshine Coast (soon to move to our home at Nambour). It is my favourite place on earth - it smells like wood cuts, it sounds like leaves rustling and kookaburras and it looks like a craft store vomited in it.
I have been working full time for myself, as an artist for over 8 years. I love the freedom working for myself gives me. Time off when I need to rest. Hustle a little harder when I want to book an overseas trip. I love that my clients trust me to do an outstanding job because I have proven my abilities over and over. I love working with art students and other creatives. I feel like I’m amongst ‘my people’. I love new ideas and love teaching and seeing the imaginary light bulb going off in someones head. I love colour. I love art because it symbolises joy. I have never delivered an artwork to a cranky person. It is pure joy - both buying and selling art.
I find the pressure of painting large murals overwhelming sometimes. I struggle with Imposter Syndrome on a daily basis, but I push through. I make at least one mistake on every mural I paint. Often I’m the only person that sees the mistake, but I’m grateful to keep making them because it makes me a better muralist. I am an introvert and love running workshops, but they exhaust me and I often need a day off to rest and recoup. I strongly dislike washing brushes. I also feel uncomfortable with the number of photos of me on this webpage - but my assistant assures me it's a good thing.
My plans for the next 12 months include building some more online workshops for schools, continuing to paint all the paintings, building the coaching side of the business, a little travel and a whole lot of colour. I love random chats, so please get in touch. Have an idea for a project? Great! Yell at me.

MORE SARAH //
Want to see more of my fancy face?
Too easy! Head over to my YouTube Channel where I upload a new video each month (or at least try to!). The content is focused around Creative Business and Murals but you might get the occasional crazy adventure. And as my little boy keeps reminding me to add to the end of my videos: 'Don't forget to like and subscribe!'
I converted a 40ft shipping container into my art studio - with my own hands! I have written a blog post about the experience with step-by-step photo documentation. So head on over to the blog to check it out.
If you would like to visit the studio on the Sunshine Coast, please get in contact with me to arrange a time.
